[Scene: Two classmates, 偉明 and 曉雲, discuss their plans after secondary school.]

[Scene: A radio programme about youth employment trends in Hong Kong and mainland China.]

[Scene: A journalist interviews 李芳, a 22-year-old who dropped out of university to start her own business.]

[Scene: A university counsellor gives a talk to Year 11 students about university choices.]

16. The counsellor says that choosing a subject purely for high earning potential is a view. [1]
17. List three factors the counsellor says students should consider when choosing a university subject. [3]
1.
2.
3.
18. How much is annual university tuition in the UK, according to the counsellor? [1]
19. What key difference between university and secondary school does the counsellor highlight? [1]
20. What does the counsellor suggest for students who are unsure what to study? [1]
A Apply to multiple universities and decide later
B Take a gap year to work or travel before deciding
C Study a general degree first, then specialise

[Scene: A student 志豪 talks about his work experience placement.]

21–23. Complete the sentences using words or short phrases in English. [3]

21. 志豪's work experience lasted .

22. His daily working hours were from to , which was than he expected.

23. The most exciting moment was visiting a under construction and seeing the become reality.

5. What common mistake do young people make when choosing a career, according to the article? [1]

9. What percentage of Hong Kong young people aged 20–30 are interested in starting a business? [1]

C More than 60%

B 80,000 new app users
C A government contract
Your answer:
12. What is the biggest challenge young entrepreneurs face in Hong Kong? [1]
13. List three government measures to support young entrepreneurs mentioned in the article. [3]

2.
3.

Translate the following passage into English. You should aim to convey the meaning of the original accurately and naturally. [15 marks]

Task 1 — Sample Response (Photo Card)

示範答案 Band 5 Response

Task 2 — Role Play Guidance Notes

• Bullet point 5 (?) is student-initiated. Award full marks for Communication if student asks a relevant question (e.g., working hours, tasks, mentoring arrangements, whether there is a chance of a permanent position).

• Do not penalise grammatical errors if the communication intent is clear.

• Sample question for ?: 「請問暑期實習嘅工作時間係點樣安排?」/ 「我係咪需要自備電腦?」

Task 3 — Sample Response Extracts (General Conversation)

Section B — Translation Model Answer [15 marks]

示範英譯 Model Translation

Choosing a career is a very important decision in life. Many young people feel lost when choosing a career, unsure of what they are actually suited for. In fact, the best approach is to first understand your own interests and abilities, and then research the employment prospects and remuneration of different industries. In addition, talking to people already working in the relevant field and hearing their first-hand experience is also very helpful. Most importantly, do not merely pursue a high salary, but instead find a job that you are genuinely willing to devote yourself to every day. Only by truly loving your work can you shine in the workplace and achieve genuine success.

Marking guidance (15 marks): Award marks holistically. Band 5 (13–15): Accurate, natural, idiomatic English; all key ideas conveyed; minimal omission. Band 4 (10–12): Most ideas accurate; occasional mistranslation or awkward phrasing. Band 3 (7–9): Core ideas present; some significant errors or omissions. Band 2 (4–6): Partial; several key ideas missing or misunderstood. Band 1 (1–3): Very little successfully translated.
Paper 4 — Writing Assessment Bands

Task 1 (5 marks): Award 5 marks for a response that clearly conveys both bullet points in coherent Chinese within the 20–30 character range. Deduct 1 mark if character count is significantly outside range. Deduct 1 mark for each missed bullet point.

Task 3 — Model Answer (Band 5)

Task 4 — Model Answer (Band 5)
